1. Powhatan County becomes 6th locality to pass VCDL resolution

Last night Powhatan County passed the VCDL "No local gun-control" resolution unanimously!  They join Patrick, Appomattox, Amelia, Pittsylvania, and Amherst counties in doing so.

Supervisor Larry Nordvig introduced a stronger version of the VCDL resolution and Supervisor Karin Carmack introduced the standard version.  Larry's resolution added a provision that the Board of Supervisors would not provide funding for enforcement of unconstitutional gun-control.

If you want to see someone fighting hard for the rights of citizens, watch Larry's passionate defense of his version of the resolution.  If only other politicians had this kind of fight in them, Virginia would be a much better place.  Very impressive.  Watch here.

Public comment at the beginning of the meeting can be viewed here.

2. Falls Church City Council voted to move forward with hearing and vote on proposed gun-control ordinance

Last night the Falls Church City Council went through the motions of listening to the concerns of all those opposing their resolution and then voted to move ahead to introduce an extremely restrictive ordinance that matches the Alexandria ordinance.  More public comment and a vote will be held on Monday, August 10 at 7 pm.
  • The emails and phone calls City Council got were 4 to 1 against the proposed ordinance!  (65 for the ordinance and 265 against it!)  Delegate Marcus Simon joined the meeting and actually claimed that the pro and con responses were basically tied!  4 to 1 is basically tied - WHAT?!  That's how blinded Simon by his outright hatred of gun owners.
  • Emails that people had requested to be read to City Council were all paraphrased instead.
  • A petition against the proposed ordinance with 44 signatures was presented.  The petition can be resubmitted to City Council later after more people have had a chance to sign it.  It has now at 125 signatures!
  • Hats off to Chief of Police, Mary Gavin, for her supportive comments on CHP holders, even though that's not what City Council wanted to hear.

3. Action item: Bedford County

Apparently the Bedford County Board of Supervisors Chairman, Mr. Sharp, is saying the resolution, being non-binding, would be better settled in the courts.  I have no idea what that means.  It is simply a resolution where a locality states that it does not intend to create any local gun-control.  If some of you know Mr. Sharp, please contact him and explain what the resolution does.  Also contact the rest of the Board in support of doing the resolution.

Contact information (phone and email) is here.
