The latest news from DC

Click here to visit my website

Hi Folks-

October was quite the whirlwind. As always, I wanted to give you a look at what I was up to here in DC and back in our district. If you aren't getting updates from me throughout the week, you can sign up for those by clicking here.

Below you'll see what I was up to this month, the op-eds I've written, and news stories I was featured in.

I hosted a Rural Broadband Task Force Summit at the Northern Neck Electric Cooperative in conjunction with FCC Chairman Ajit Pai.  We had a great discussion about how we can provide broadband to all of Virginia's First District.

I also hosted a Town Hall with special guests from the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, and Delegate Hodges to discuss policy solutions for local waterways and marinas in Mathews County.

As Seapower Chairman, I'll be serving as a conferee to the FY18 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Committee. Here, I am headed to the first NDAA Conference meeting with my Democrat counterpart on the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, Rep. Courtney.

I spent time in Fredericksburg with Downtown Greens and FoodE learning about urban gardens, sustainability, and garden to table!

I also participated in the Mechanicsville Honor Flight to honor the veterans who served our great nation and to talk about the work I've done in the House to make sure our veteran's receive the benefits they've earned.

I spent some time at the new idX facility in Spotsylvania to discuss manufacturing and workforce development.

I visited Keep Prince William Beautiful to update them on the legislation, H.R. 3979, I've co-sponsored to reauthorize National Wildlife Refuge System volunteer programs.

I met with some federal firefighrers to talk about retirement policy and safety issues.

I presented a Congressional Extension of Remarks to the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department in recognition of their service to the community.

I was able to discuss greater cooperation opportunities between the U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy with Britain's First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Philip Jones.

Take a look at the different op-eds I've written this month:

The U.S. Navy must shore up its cyber defenses (Defense News)

Replacing the 'Air Force One' fleet literally takes an act of Congress (Defense News)

And some of the news articles I was mentioned in:

Drawing battle lines on coastal flooding at military bases (Daily Press)

Coast Guard stands by removing channel markers, open to private options (Daily Press)

Why the U.S. Navy Might Scrap Half of the Most Powerful Warships in Its Fleet (The National Interest)

To keep up with all of my work around the First District and in Washington, connect with me on Facebook.

It's an honor to serve you and Virginia's First District in the People's House.

Sincerely,

Rob

Reminder---BugOut Plans, Sunday, September 3, 2017.

All,

As announced during the August PVWC meeting, the Peninsula Volkswagen Club will caravan up to BugOut on Sunday morning, September 3d.

Peninsula Volkswagen Club will be meeting at Patriot Square Shopping Center around 6:15 am Sunday, Sep 3d.  Patriot Square is at the intersection of US 17 and Fort Eustis Boulevard in Yorktown, VA.

We will depart around 6:30, heading North on US-17 to link up with several PVWC members at the Lowe's in Gloucester area around 7.  (Don't forget to bring money for the toll at the Coleman Bridge).

From there, we will drive up to BugOut as a group---we're headed to Dominion Raceway at 6501 Dominion Raceway Avenue, Thornburg, VA 22580.

Return trip to the Peninsula/Middle Peninsula is your call---if it's hot, I expect I'll head back when I've wilted due to the heat.

If you have 'em, recommend you bring FRS radios in case we need them during the drive.

BugOut website is: http://www.bug-outs.com

A couple of reminders:  there will be no club meeting on the 3d due to the holiday weekend.  PVWC will have a club picnic on September 9th @ Yorktown Beach, Yorktown, Virginia, and we'll do a SHORT meeting to kick off the picnic.  We'll resume meeting at Angelo's in October.  Picnic start time will be around 11 am.  More to follow on the picnic in a separate announcement.

Questions?  Email me, or call me @ (757) 303-2177.

Thanks,
Warren
