Hi Folks-

October was quite the whirlwind. As always, I wanted to give you a look at what I was up to here in DC and back in our district. If you aren't getting updates from me throughout the week, you can sign up for those by clicking here.

Below you'll see what I was up to this month, the op-eds I've written, and news stories I was featured in.

I hosted a Rural Broadband Task Force Summit at the Northern Neck Electric Cooperative in conjunction with FCC Chairman Ajit Pai.  We had a great discussion about how we can provide broadband to all of Virginia's First District.

I also hosted a Town Hall with special guests from the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, and Delegate Hodges to discuss policy solutions for local waterways and marinas in Mathews County.

As Seapower Chairman, I'll be serving as a conferee to the FY18 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Committee. Here, I am headed to the first NDAA Conference meeting with my Democrat counterpart on the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, Rep. Courtney.

I spent time in Fredericksburg with Downtown Greens and FoodE learning about urban gardens, sustainability, and garden to table!

I also participated in the Mechanicsville Honor Flight to honor the veterans who served our great nation and to talk about the work I've done in the House to make sure our veteran's receive the benefits they've earned.

I spent some time at the new idX facility in Spotsylvania to discuss manufacturing and workforce development.

I visited Keep Prince William Beautiful to update them on the legislation, H.R. 3979, I've co-sponsored to reauthorize National Wildlife Refuge System volunteer programs.

I met with some federal firefighrers to talk about retirement policy and safety issues.

I presented a Congressional Extension of Remarks to the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department in recognition of their service to the community.

I was able to discuss greater cooperation opportunities between the U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy with Britain's First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Philip Jones.

Take a look at the different op-eds I've written this month:
